For the first time since 2012, the NFL season opener occurs on a Wednesday. With a rematch of Super Bowl LX, the New England Patriots will face the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field.
On September 5th, 2012, the Dallas Cowboys visited the Big Apple to play the New York Giants. While the inaugural game of the 2012 season was moved to Wednesday due to a scheduling conflict with the Democratic National Convention, the Patriots-Seahawks game was pushed forward due to conflicts with the first regular-season NFL game to be played in Australia.
The Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers will play on Thursday, September 10th, a day the league has set aside for this historic game, causing the season opener to move to Wednesday.
While the Wednesday scheduling conflicts with many Major League Baseball games, this unique airing opens the door of increased revenue. With prime time games on Wednesday, Thursday, Sunday, and Monday, more eyes will be drawn to the screen throughout the entire week, rather than the just the traditional time slots.
