After just one season with the Dallas Cowboys, RB Javonte Williams signed a three-year, $24 million dollar extension. In the 2025 season, Williams totaled 1201 rushing yards for an average of 4.8 yards per carry. The 25-year-old’s performance skyrocketed with the Cowboys, rushing for 688 more yards than in his previous season with the Denver Broncos.
In 2024, Dallas placed 27th with 100.3 average rushing yards per game, and in 2025, they placed 8th with 125.6 average rushing yards per game. The quick turnaround in backfield performance could be accredited to the coaching changes or George Pickens’ defensive distraction among other things, yet there is no doubt that the addition of Williams to the offense increased their run game capabilities.
Under his new contract, Williams will receive $16 million in guarantees, and he will receive an average salary of about $8 million. His new deal places him below the Chicago Bears’ D’Andre Swift and above the Tennessee Titans’ Tony Pollard in average pay per year. In the 2025 season, Swift ran for 1087 yards with an average of 4.9 yards per carry, and Pollard ran for 1082 yards with an average of 4.5 yards per carry. Knowing the talent of those with comparable contracts to Williams, his contract is hypothetically reasonable for his impact on the team.
The Cowboys were quick to act on Williams’ signing, with his signing occurring about three weeks before the NFL Free Agency market formally opens. While Williams’ decision to stay in Dallas was impacted by the pay and Texas income taxes, he has described his love for the organization countless times, placing emphasis on being a part of what he calls an “electrifying” offense.
