The reigning Superbowl champions were sold just yesterday. The Kholsa Family, who also have shares within the San Francisco 49ers franchise, have agreed to purchase the Seattle Seahawks for $9.612 billion. Even though there has been a sale agreement between the two parties, the transaction will have to be approved by NFL owners.

In 1997, Microsoft founder Paul Allen bought the team in an attempt to prevent a potential relocation. After Allen lost his life due to a battle with cancer, the Seahawks franchise was managed by his sister, Jody Allen. Formally titled The Paul Allen Estate, she was obliged to sell the team and donate any earnings to a non-profit organization. On February 18th, 2026, the Seahawks released this public statement, “The Estate of Paul G. Allen today announced it has commenced a formal sale process for the Seattle Seahawks NFL franchise, consistent with Allen’s directive to eventually sell his sports holdings and direct all Estate proceeds to philanthropy.”

The purchasing family is spearheaded by Vinod Kholsa, who received his MBA from Stanford and founded Kholsa Ventures. Kholsa’s estimated net worth is $15.6 billion, according to Forbes.

Kholsa has been recognized for his success multiple times: he was placed in the top 10 of the 2026 Forbes’ America’s Greatest Innovators, and he ranked first on the 2026 Forbes Midas List.

Vinod Kholsa shares on behalf of the entire Kholsa family, “We are honored to be entrusted as the next stewards of the Seattle Seahawks. We look forward to building on the winning legacy Paul Allen created and to earning the trust of the Seahawks organization and fans everywhere.”

The next major step in this deal involves the formal approval from NFL owners, which is speculated to be in late August. For this transaction to be validated, 24 of the 32 current league owners must approve. Additionally, Kholsa must surrender his stake in the 49ers franchise as a condition of the deal.
