With the 2026 NFL season starting on September 9th, many teams are making final moves in preparation for the first regular season game. Below are some of the most influential moves in recent history.
On August 17th, the Chicago Bears signed EDGE Marcus Davenport. The former Detroit Lion was drafted in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints, who he played with for the first five seasons of his career. After his time in the Big Easy, Davenport played for the Minnesota Vikings in 2023.
The 29-year-old missed a handful of his Detroit games with a season-ending tricep injury in 2024, as well as shoulder/pectoral injuries in 2025. Despite Davenport being labeled as an “injury prone” player, he has demonstrated talent totaling 25 sacks and 71 quarterback hits.
While it has been revealed that Davenport will be joining Chicago on a one-year deal, the details of his contract have not been released to the public.
The Detroit Lions add another running back to the crowded room, signing former Charger Trayveon Williams. Williams was drafted in the sixth round of the NFL draft from Texas A&M, playing his first six seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. Williams spent time moving between the New England Patriots, Cleveland Browns, and Los Angeles Chargers before he signed with the Detroit Lions.
Dan Campbell has experienced many oddities in his running back room, with RB1 Jahmyr Gibbs not attending practices due to a contract “hold-in” situation, and Isaiah Pacheco suffering a MCL injury. Adding Trayveon Williams to the running back roster will provide the Lions with more depth at the position.
