Atlanta Falcons
On August 20th, it was reported that the private equity firm Arctos will buy a 10% stake in the Atlanta Falcons at a valuation of $10.6 billion.
Arctos (Arctos Partners) is a “a private investment firm founded in 2019 that buys minority, non-controlling stakes in professional sports franchises and provides capital solutions to alternative asset managers.” The firm currently holds a 10% stake in the Buffalo Bills franchise, an 8% stake in the Los Angeles Chargers franchise, and a 3% stake in the Cleveland Browns franchise.
Owner Arthur Blank currently holds a 73% stake in the Falcons franchise, and it has not yet been stated whether or not the Arctos shares were purchased from Blank or other limited partners.
Chelsea FC
Co-Owners Todd Boehly and Mark Walter have been in talks to sell their shares in Chelsea FC to current shareholder Clearlake Capital.
Currently, Clearlake Capital acts as the majority shareholder with a 61.5% stake in the club, and Boehly, Walter, and Hansjorg Wyss all have stakes of 12.8% in the club. If Boehly and Walter sell their stakes in the club to Clearlake Capital, the firm will become the majority owner of Chelsea FC.
Tension has been created in the front office regarding club management, recruitment, and architectural plans.
Liverpool FC
On August 14th, the owners of Liverpool FC sold a 38% stake to Jeff Bezos and 1892 Holdings. Fenway Sports Group is still the majority owner of the club, yet the deal allows for the recent purchasers to own majority stake within the next year.
Bezos is the founder, former CEO, and executive chairman of Amazon. Bezos has an estimated net worth of $268 billion (2026), and his Amazon shares make up around 85% of his earnings.
The consortium paid about $2.6 billion for the shares, which values Liverpool FC from $5 billion – $6 billion.
