As the March Madness tournament begins to shake out, there are more upsets and more surprises. The first round concluded on Saturday, March 21st, and the second round concluded on Monday, March 23rd.
On Friday, March 27th, the first half of the Sweet 16 games were played as follows:
- 6 Notre Dame (67) vs. 2 Vanderbilt (64)
- 4 UNC (42) vs. 1 UConn (63)
- 4 Minnesota (56) vs. 1 UCLA (80)
- 3 Duke (87) vs. 2 LSU (85)
Playing until the last second of the game, Vanderbilt tried to tie the game with the Irish but missed a buzzer-beater shot. Notre Dame will play UConn in the Elite Eight.
The Blue Devils and Tigers were neck-in-neck the entire game, but Duke ended up securing the win with a buzzer-beating 3-point shot. Duke will play UCLA in the Elite Eight.
On Saturday, March 28th, the second half of the Sweet 16 games were played as follows:
- 3 Louisville (52) vs. 2 Michigan (71)
- 5 Kentucky (54) vs. 1 Texas (76)
- 4 Oklahoma (68) vs. 1 South Carolina (94)
- 10 Virginia (69) vs. 3 TCU (79)
TCU’s Dynamic Duo, Olivia Miles and Marta Suarez, combined for a total of 61 points against the Cavaliers. TCU will play No. 1 seed South Carolina in the Elite Eight.
