Even though the beginning of summer marks a period of rest and relaxation for many, the sports world remains just as hectic. Here are the biggest sports news updates for the current day:

NBA Finals

After the San Antonio Spurs won their 7-game series against the Oklahoma City Thunder, they progressed to the Finals where they will face the New York Knicks. On Wednesday, June 3rd, the Spurs and Knicks went head-to-head at the Frost Bank Center.

Even though Victor Wembanyama led San Antonio to a 27-19 lead over New York in the first quarter, Karl Anthony Towns, Jalen Brunson, Landry Shamet, and others maintained dominance throughout the last three quarters.

The Knicks, along with their rowdy fanbase, gain morale from their 105-95 win over the Spurs. The teams will meet again at the Frost Bank Center on June 5th, 2026 at 7:30 PM CST.

The cheapest tickets for the upcoming game are $841, and some of the most expensive tickets break the $15,000 barrier. The tickets for the upcoming game on Monday, June 8th, at the Garden start at a shattering price of $8,743, with some tickets on sale for more than $100,000.

World Cup

The 2026 FIFA World Cup starts in exactly one week on Thursday, June 11th. Mexico will play South Africa in Mexico City, Mexico, at 2:00 PM CST, and South Korea will play the Czech Republic in Zapopan, Mexico, at 9:00 PM CST.

According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the favorites for the tournament are Spain (+420), France (+470), England (+650), Brazil (+850), Portugal (+1000), and Argentina (+1000).

Similar to the NBA Finals, tickets are selling for groundbreaking prices. For the inaugural game of the 2026 World Cup, remaining tickets start at $2,536 and reach selling points of nearly $15,000.

On July 19th, the two remaining teams will play in MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The cheapest tickets are selling for around $7,570, and the most expensive price tags breach $80,000.

In comparison to previous years where tickets could be purchased between $70 to $1,600, 2026’s prices are unaffordable for most. Some people are paying yearly salaries to enter these games, causing many people to question FIFA’s decisions and policies.
